Tips on how to use our site.
This page is intended to provide some basic tips on how to get the most from our site.
1) Download Center — Leaving Comments. — Please note that leaving comments regarding files is intended solely for letting other visitors know what you think about that particular file. It should not be used to ask us questions. Use the contact information page and send us an email if you have a question.
2) Downloading Tips. — Occasionally we have visitors who have problems downloading a particular file. In the vast majority of cases this is caused by their browser not handling the method we use to instruct it to download. Internet Explorer in particular can be troublesome in this respect. For a very fine and granular control over what happens when you click the download link, we recommend using the Firefox browser. It offers superior control over each type of file and what the browser should do with it. It can be downloaded from Mozilla by clicking the link.
3) File doesn't open after downloading. — We have had this reported a few times. This can be caused by a couple of things. a) the file was somehow damaged during the download process or b) the computer may not have the proper software loaded to read the file. For instance if you download a PDF file and then try to open it without having the Adobe reader installed, it will fail. The solution in most cases is to be sure you have the proper software loaded and that you have received the complete file. Again, Mozilla's Firefox is recommended for downloading.
4) Looking for a particular program. — We get a few questions about a particular type of prgram, such as a ministry school scheduler, etc. Often the sender hasn't taken the time to read our links pages to find what is being sought. Please take the time to look through our links pages before asking about software you're looking for. This saves us time and you get your answer quicker too.
5) File Problem Report. — Our download center has a feature permitting visitors to send us a problem report about a given file. For the most part (90% +) the problem reports fall into one of the categories listed above, downloading, file doesn't open, etc. It would be very helpful to us to try and resolve the issue first before sending a problem report.
6) Timely responses. — We have to be frank about our time for maintaining this site. It isn't a lot. So if you send a message and we don't answer right away, you can rest assured the reason is that we're too busy at the moment to catch up. In time we will get around to your message, but we can't guarantee a time-table.
7) Will you have ??? — We often get questions such as "Will you have a notebook for children for a particular assembly?". Keep in mind that for the most part our materials are not created by us, but are uploaded by our visitors. That's why the site is named Theoshare, it's intended for sharing. So it's dependent upon our visitors and often we won't be able to answer these kinds of questions definitely. Be sure and use the news/notification feature so that you get an email when new items are posted. Under normal circumstances, we will have bookmarks in time for the publication being studied. Also normally we have notebooks prior to most assemblies. However, there may be delays that we have no control over.
8) Printing Issues — This seems to be the most problematic issue. And the simple fact is that we just can't figure out all the myriads of possibilites of things going wrong with our visitors' printers. Some have asked if PDF's can be resized and how do I re-size this, etc, etc. These are basic questions that each individual has the responsibility to learn how to do on their particular machine. The number of combinations are almost endless and we just do not have time to answer technical questions of this nature. Not to be mean spirited, but please educate yourself as we do not have the time to do so.
We hope these tips will be helpful to our visitors and also reduce the impact on our schedule for maintaining the site.
